Lesson #2 - THE COVENANT - Printer Friendly Version  - (Here)
Essential to an understanding of God’s word is a knowledge of the difference between the Old and New Covenants.
All of the Bible is true, but only the New Testament or New Covenant of Jesus Christ, NOW applies to us in this
dispensation or age.  In 2 Peter 1:12, we are told we need to “…be established in the PRESENT truth.”  There is such
thing then, as PAST truth and PRESENT truth.  God told Noah to build an ark (Genesis 6).  This is not PRESENT
a truth, for God has not instructed us to build an ark.  In Hebrews 8:8, God said, “…I will make a NEW covenant…”
That NEW Covenant is the PRESENT truth in which we must be established

READ THE FOLLOWING REFERENCES CAREFULLY AND FILL IN THE BLANKS

1.

1Hebrews 8:7 – “For if that first had been faultless, then should no place have been

  sought for the .”  (The Covenant of Jesus Christ, the New Testament, is faultless;
therefore we return to an inferior covenant if we go back to the law of Moses for our guidance in this present
dispensation.  Please read Hebrews 10:9, 10)

2.

1God said the New Covenant would not be to the Old (Heb. 8:8,9)

3.

1 The Old Covenant was founded upon the of animals (Heb. 9:11-14).

4.

1The New Covenant is founded upon the blood of . (Hebrews 9:14).

5.

1Jesus Christ is the of the New Covenant (Hebrews 9:15).  (Christ is the ONLY

one we have or need to serve in this office.)

6.

(Hebrews 10:4)

7.

1Christ sealed the New Testament with His (Hebrews 9:14-23).  (Thus sealed, the

9.

1The Bible teaches that Christ becomes the eternal salvation to all them that

  Him (Hebrews 5:9).

10.

1The New Testament teaches that under the New Covenant, children of God are married to Christ. Romans

7:4 says that even the Jews had to become to the before
they could be married to another.  In the same passage Paul shows that no man could be married to Christ
until Christ was --- from the dead.  This clearly explains that men were married to
Christ (Became Christians)  AFTER Christ was raised from the dead.  BEFORE the resurrection, men
were made CHRISTIANS according to the laws of the NEW COVENANT.
Please read Exodus 34:27-35 and 2 Corinthians 3:6-18.  This shows that the authority of the OLD
Testament was abolished IN CHRIST, that is the authority of the OLD Testament YIELDED to the
authority of Christ in the NEW Testament.

Now, please read Colossians 2:14-17.  In the blanks below, list FIVE THINGS Paul used to illustrate that

the Old law was nailed to the cross--- things which were in effect under the Old Law, but ARE NOT in
  effect under the New Testament.
